Golf Cart Rules
1. Only licensed drivers 16 years of age and older can drive a golf cart in South Carolina. It is illegal for young children or unlicensed drivers to drive a golf cart. It does not matter if you are seated next to your child; they still cannot drive. Also, if an unlicensed driver has an accident, you can be criminally liable for “negligent entrustment” for any accident caused with the rented golf cart.
2. In South Carolina, you can only drive a golf cart during DAYLIGHT hours. During these hours, you can drive on secondary highways and streets with a speed limit of 35 mph or less. You can cross a highway or street at an intersection even if the highway has a speed limit greater than 35 mph.
3. You must stay within 4 miles of the address on the rental agreement.
4. You will need to have the following with you at all times while using your rental cart:
RENTAL AGREEMENT
PROOF OF INSURANCE
DRIVER’S LICENSE
5. You cannot drink alcohol while driving a golf cart. You can get charged with DUI and/or having an open container just as if you were driving a car
