If you are looking at golf carts, one of the key questions is whether you will go for a gas or electric-powered model. Both engine types have their advantages and disadvantages, but you have to be informed if you want to make the right decision. That is why Etto Leisure Cars has put together this list highlighting the key facts of electric vs. gas golf carts.

If you are in the market for a golf cart, whether gas or electric, we offer a selection of both to our customers throughout southeastern South Carolina. Visit us at Mt. Pleasant, where we maintain two locations and a service center ready to offer repairs. Between these and our dealerships in Summerville and Charleston, we’re not too difficult to find, so head on over!

Gas Golf Carts

Gas golf carts have three advantages: they are faster, can carry heavier loads, and are easy to refuel. The greater speed is especially attractive for experienced golf players or anyone who values being able to cut down on time spent traveling between holes. Greater velocity is also helpful because certain paved areas have minimum speed requirements. In addition, gas models are also better for those who want their golf carts to be custom-built with additional amenities and options.

However, while refueling a gas engine is extremely easy, using gasoline is harder on the environment than using electricity to power your golf car. Even with fewer trips due to greater load capacity, gas golf carts have a bigger carbon footprint. The smell and sound of a gas engine don’t make for a very green driving experience, either! Compared to an electric cart, gas golf carts are noisier and require more frequent maintenance due to oil changes.

For safety reasons, keep in mind that a gas golf cart produces carbon-monoxide emissions similar to those of a car and can pose a health risk if operated within an enclosed space such as a garage.

Electric Golf Carts

Electric golf cars have the advantage of not putting out any emissions. They are also quieter and generally more affordable. Even when comparing used models of both types, electric golf carts tend to cost less and are more widely available. Electric cart owners also save money because recharging is cheaper than purchasing gasoline and electric carts need less frequent maintenance.

While they have many advantages, electric carts also have some drawbacks, like being more difficult to maneuver. Electric carts do not always have a way to easily tell when you are running out of power and recharging takes time. When it does come time to recharge, many owners find the batteries difficult to remove. If your cart ever does lose power, it can be a major inconvenience. Stranded carts may need to be towed or pushed to their destination, hardly a fun experience for anyone.

Ultimately, the choice between a gas or electric-powered cart is up to you. Now that you know the strengths and weaknesses of both types you can make a more informed decision. Whatever your choice, we hope to see you at Etto Leisure Cars. Whether you visit us at Mt. Pleasant, Summerville, or Charleston, we have the selection to fit your needs and a staff ready to answer all your questions.
